2 Crônicas 25
Morris - After the miraculous deliverance of the Edomites into his hand by God, it seems almost incredible that Amaziah would then bow down to their impotent "gods." Set them up as his gods bowed down before them and burned incense to them - Note the inevitable progression - (1) fail to obey God and destroy the idols; (2) bring them back home (note what the writer called them - "HIS gods!"); (3) bow down (4) burn incense (cf to prayer)! The writer leaves one aspect off his description, although it may be implied in #3 "bowed down." So just so we do not miss it Number 5 is one becomes enslaved to the idol -- in bondage to dead (but spiritual corrupting) gods! Watch Amaziah's spiritual discernment deteriorate from here on out! 🙏 THOUGHT - Paul writes to believers "Therefore do not let sin reign (present imperative with a negative see our need to depend on the Holy Spirit to obey) in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts (AKA "DO NOT BOW DOWN!"), 13 and do not go on presenting (present imperative with a negative see our need to depend on the Holy Spirit to obey) the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. (Ro 6:12-13+) One of the best "antidotes" to bowing down to idols is to bow down to God! See The Expulsive Power of a New Affection. Bob
