2 Coríntios 5
John Phillips · Citado em PreceptAustin
2 Coríntios 5:1-3
Phillips: for we do not want to face utter nakedness when death destroys our present dwelling - these bodies of ours. ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth: if indeed having really put on a robe we shall not be found to be unclothed.
2 Coríntios 5:1-3
Phillips: In this present frame we sigh with deep longing for the heavenly house, ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth: For in this one we sigh, because we long to put on over it our dwelling which comes from Heaven—
2 Coríntios 5:1-3
Phillips: We know, for instance, that if our earthly dwelling were taken down, like a tent, we have a permanent house in Heaven, made, not by man, but by God. ( Phillips: Touchstone) WBC: For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is dismantled, we have a house from God, one not built by human hands, eternal, in the heavens. Weymouth: 1 For we know that if this poor tent, our earthly house, is taken down, we have in Heaven a building which God has provided, a house not built by human hands, but eternal.
2 Coríntios 5:4-5
Phillips: So long as we are clothed in this temporary dwelling we have a painful longing, not because we want just to get rid of these "clothes" but because we want to know the full cover of the permanent house that will be ours. We want our transitory life to be absorbed into the life that is eternal. ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth: Yes, we who are in this tent certainly do sigh under our burdens, for we do not wish to lay aside that with which we are now clothed, but to put on more, so that our mortality may be absorbed in Life.
2 Coríntios 5:4-5
Phillips: Now the power that has planned this experience for us is God, and he has given us his Spirit as a guarantee of its truth. ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth: And He who formed us with this very end in view is God, who has given us His Spirit as a pledge and foretaste of that bliss.
2 Coríntios 5:9
Phillips: It is our aim, therefore, to please him, whether we are "at home" or "away". ( Phillips: Touchstone) TLB: So our aim is to please him always in everything we do, whether we are here in this body or away from this body and with him in heaven. Weymouth: And for this reason also we make it our ambition, whether at home or in exile, to please Him perfectly.
2 Coríntios 5:10
Phillips: For every one of us will have to stand without pretence before Christ our judge, and we shall be rewarded for what we did when we lived in our bodies, whether it was good or bad. ( Phillips: Touchstone) TLB: For we must all stand before Christ to be judged and have our lives laid bare—before him. Each of us will receive whatever he deserves for the good or bad things he has done in his earthly body Way’s translation: For we have all to stand, stripped of all disguise, before Messiah’s bar, that each may receive the recompense for deeds whereof the body was the instrument, Yea, even according to that which he hath done, Be it good, be it evil. (I don't agree however with his translating it as "evil" which is what the Textus Receptus has [kakos]. The Nestle Aland has "phaulos" which means useless or of no effect). Weymouth: For we must all of us appear before Christ's judgment-seat in our true characters, in order that each may then receive an award for his actions in this life, in accordance with what he has done, whether it be good or whether it be worthless.
2 Coríntios 5:11-13
Phillips: (No, we are not recommending ourselves to you again, but we can give you grounds for legitimate pride in us - if that is what you need to meet those who are so proud of the outward rather than the inward qualification). ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth: We are not again commending ourselves to your favour, but are furnishing you with a ground of boasting on our behalf, so that you may have a reply ready for those with whom superficial appearances are everything and sincerity of heart counts for nothing.
2 Coríntios 5:11-13
Phillips: All our persuading of men, then, is with this solemn fear of God in our minds. What we are is utterly plain to God - and I hope to your consciences as well. ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth: Therefore, because we realize how greatly the Lord is to be feared, we are endeavouring to win men over, and God recognizes what our motives are, and I hope that you, in your hearts, recognize them too.
2 Coríntios 5:11-13
Phillips: If we have been "mad" it was for God's glory; if we are perfectly sane it is for your benefit. At any rate there has been no selfish motive. ( Phillips: Touchstone) Plummer: (‘I do not commend myself; indeed I do nothing on my own account) for when I was beside myself, it was on God’s account, and when I am sane, it is on yours.’ Weymouth: For if we have been beside ourselves, it has been for God’s glory; or if we are now in our right senses, it is in order to be of service to you.
2 Coríntios 5:14-16
Phillips: The very spring of our actions is the love of Christ. We look at it like this: if one died for all men then, in a sense, they all died, ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth: For the love of Christ overmasters us, the conclusion at which we have arrived being this—that One having died for all, His death was their death,
2 Coríntios 5:14-16
Phillips: and his purpose in dying for them is that their lives should now be no longer lived for themselves but for him who died and rose again for them. ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth:and that He died for all in order that the living may no longer live to themselves, but to Him who died for them and rose again.
2 Coríntios 5:14-16
Phillips: This means that our knowledge of men can no longer be based on their outward lives (indeed, even though we knew Christ as a man we do not know him like that any longer). ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth: Therefore for the future we know no one simply as a man. Even if we have known Christ as a man, yet now we do so no longer. WBC: Therefore from now we judge no one from an outward point of view. Though we may have judged Christ from such a viewpoint, now we do so no longer (Ralph Earle - Word Biblical Commentary)
2 Coríntios 5:17
Phillips: For if a man is in Christ he becomes a new person altogether - the past is finished and gone, everything has become fresh and new. ( Phillips: Touchstone) TLB: When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun! Weymouth: So that if any one is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old state of things has passed away; a new state of things has come into existence.
2 Coríntios 5:18-19
Phillips: All this is God's doing, for he has reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ; and he has made us agents of the reconciliation. ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth: And all this is from God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and has appointed us to serve in the ministry of reconciliation.
2 Coríntios 5:18-19
Phillips: God was in Christ personally reconciling the world to himself - not counting their sins against them - and has commissioned us with the message of reconciliation. ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth: We are to tell how God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not charging men’s transgressions to their account, and that He has entrusted to us the Message of this reconciliation.
2 Coríntios 5:20-21
Phillips: We are now Christ's ambassadors, as though God were appealing direct to you through us. As his personal representatives we say, "Make your peace with God." ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth: On Christ’s behalf therefore we come as ambassadors, God, as it were, making entreaty through our lips: we, on Christ’s behalf, beseech men to be reconciled to God.
2 Coríntios 5:20-21
Phillips: For God caused Christ, who himself knew nothing of sin, actually to be sin for our sakes, so that in Christ we might be made good with the goodness of God. ( Phillips: Touchstone) Weymouth: He has made Him who knew nothing of sin to be sin for us, in order that in Him we may become the righteousness of God.
