Eclesiastes 1

DeHaan points out, “The failure of man’s wisdom is vividly expressed by Solomon in the first chapter of Ecclesiastes. After unsuccessful attempts to find God and spiritual satisfaction in a study of nature and history, he turned to the literature of his day. Again he was frustrated. ‘I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven. This severe travail hath God given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith. I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and behold all is vanity and vexation of spirit. For in such wisdom is much grief. And he that increaseth knowledge, increaseth sorrow.” Warren
