Utley - "in your members" Our physical bodies are not evil, nor are they the source of evil (Greek thought), but they are the battle ground of evil (cf. Rom. 6:12-14). This was a major ontological difference between Greek philosophy and biblical Christianity. It is just possible the "members" may refer to the body of Christ, the Church. It is uncertain whether the warning is internal (fallen nature), external (problem in the church) or both. William Barclay on wage war favors this use of members refers to "church members." - “He does not mean that they war within a man – although that is also true – but that they set men warring against each other.” (James 5 Commentary) Marvin

Utley comments that "This refers to the specific plans of...businessmen who do not take God into account. It is a glaring example of practical atheism."
