2 Crônicas 13
Barnes - As with others in the Old Testament who faced greater military forces, the legitimate force must cast themselves into the hands of a gracious God ("they cried out to the Lord for help," 2Ch 13:14; "they trusted in the Lord," 2Ch 13:18), who alone can bring victory ("God defeated... and routed them," 2Ch 13:15; "God handed them over," 2Ch 13:16). God is notably the active subject of the verbs in 2Ch 13:15, while Abijah and the army of Judah are depicted in a passive posture observing the rout. Only after the northern army was in flight did Abijah and his troops spring into action, which is depicted as a cleanup operation. Defeat at Mount Zemaraim leads to the fall of the southern region of Ephraim, typified by the capture of the towns of Jeshanah, Bethel, and Ephron. (See 1-2 Chronicles - Page 302) F B
